On Sunday 11 August more than 200 people came to the launch of the new Holder Wetlands, hosted by Southern ACT Catchment Group.

Holder locals learning about the engineered and natural elements of Holder Wetlands

There were tours, frog talks, water bug identification and a free sausage sizzle. There was also birthday cake, cut by Minister for the Environment and Heritage, Mick Gentleman, in celebration of 30 years of Landcare in Australia. A brand new care group was started on the day with over 40 local people signing up to look after the wetlands as they mature. The wetlands at Holder are the first of the 20 new rain gardens, wetlands, ponds and channel restoration projects in the Healthy Waterways program to be publicly launched. For more information about how these projects are contributing to water quality in our lakes and waterways, visit the Healthy Waterways website.

To join or start a care group for one of these wonderful new community assets, contact your local catchment group – Ginninderra, Molonglo or Southern ACT.
