Monaro Landscape Connectivity project
Submitted by Lynton Bond on Sat, 21/01/2012 - 16:10
Having received some good interest from people at the workshop in Bungendore on 1 December, particularly from around Carwoola - Captain's Flat - Hoskinstown, the project team is now planning to hold the first MLC workshop in this area.
The details for the workshop are not yet finalised, but at this stage expect a 1-day workshop in the Captains Flat valley (ideally on the property of an interested landholder) in late April or early May. The workshop will help land managers to get a better understanding of native vegetation on their property, and also to look at managing it in the context of its connectivity to surrounding patches, through aerial photos and maps (which we will provide for all attendees) of native vegetation types across the landscape around their individual properties. There will also be sessions on Indigenous land management principles, and how people can begin to apply these on their property, if they are interested.

FoMM National Tree Day 2010 community planting
Submitted by Lynton Bond on Tue, 06/07/2010 - 12:56The preparations for the National Tree Day 2010 have started and the first planting holes are dug. National Tree Day will be our main planting event as it was in the past two years. This year we will extend our 2009 work. We will be planting mainly shrubs (mid-storey vegetation) along the drainage line close to the Hackett reservoir and at the adjacent sites that we cleared from horehound. We will add some clumps of Silver Wattle and replace some of the tree seedlings that were damaged by grazing.

MGCMN field day - managing weeds in native grasslands
Submitted by David Eddy on Tue, 16/03/2010 - 12:35Ever wondered how to selectively remove perennial weeds from among the rich diversity of a complex native grassland ?
This field day, organised by the Monaro Grassland Conservation Management Network, will allow exploration and discussion of the variety of methods and concepts involved in understanding how to manipulate grassland composition to favour native plants over weed species.
