Greening Australia Capital Region
Since its inception Greening Australia has focused on the importance of social engagement. But it is a focus which has evolved over time. Once Greening Australia pursued a 3 Es approach - Educate, Enthuse and Empower. Now it champions the 3Ps - People, Partnerships and Projects. This change - from creating a climate conducive to greening Australia to actually greening Australia was developed in the early years of the Natural Heritage Trust. Greening Australia Capital Region's primary roles today include:
- Helping People On The Land - providing fast and friendly technical advice, training and onground assistance to landholders - connecting activities behind the farm gate to the wider world through links to schools, community groups, catchment and regional organisations, businesses and government agencies.
- Recovering Landscapes - increasing native vegetation cover in the landscape to combat salinity, conserve nature and boost production. Through its cost-effective, fee-for-service direct seeding program, Greening Australia is able to revegetate large areas, organise special field days, provide on-site advice, seed, machinery and operation.
- Linking Habitat - implementing vegetation plans and following conservation guidelines to fence off and manage vegetation communities, and conserve, buffer and link habitat for birds and other species.
- Restoring River Health - offering technical advice and assistance to protect native remnant vegetation along waterways, prevent willow invasion and counter the problems of sedimentation caused by bank erosion.
- Building Conservation Partnerships - forging key partnerships with community, scientific, business and government agencies at local, regional, state and national levels to grow, plant and manage vegetation for multiple benefits.
