ACT Catchment & Landcare Association
Recognising that many community groups felt that there was insufficient opportunity for ‘round the table’ dialogue between community groups and agency officers who make NRM decisions, Environment ACT facilitated the development of the ACT Catchment & Landcare Association (CLA) in early 2003.
The establishment of the autonomous CLA provided a strong community voice for catchment and other related NRM organisations to interact and liaise with Government.
The CLA aims to:
- Facilitate the development of an ACT wide community NRM support network;
- Take a leading role in monitoring and feedback of Landcare efforts/benefits/outcomes to the wider community, Government and industry;
- Facilitate further investment (in all its various forms) in Landcare in the ACT;
- Improve two-way communication and the opportunity for collaboration between community groups;
- Facilitate intra-government and community/government coordination;
- Consider and deal with community issues related to the implementation of ICM, the ACT Community Support Strategy and the development, accreditation and implementation of sub-catchment plans;
- Provide advice to the ACT Natural Resource Management Advisory Committee, relevant Government Agencies and NRM community organisations in the ACT and surrounding region; and
- Provide comment on ACT, regional and national strategies, plans and policy documents as appropriate.
