2011 Be Natural Murrumbidgee Black Willow Monitoring Program activity

Date:
3 Dec 2011 - 9:00am - 4 Dec 2011 - 5:00pm

Whitewater rafting paddle along 11km of the Murrumbidgee River Angle Crossing to Tharwa to poison black willows

When: 3rd & 4th December, 9:00am to 5:00pm

Where: Meet at Tharwa at 9:00am

Objective:
Both days we will treat or hand pull the regrowth of seedlings on the sand bars about 1km downstream of Angle Crossing and  then paddle down trough some great whitewater and scenery to Tharwa. Volunteers who do not live in Canberra will drive down either Friday afternoon or early Saturday morning and camp in the camp ground at Woods Reserve on Saturday night. We can paddle the trip twice as there is enough work to paddle the  river twice and it is also a great section of river to paddle. But if we get enough work done on Saturday we may paddle Another section on Sunday. Snowy Hydro is releasing 300 to 450MLD from Tantangara over this period which should add to the natural flows and make the paddle enjoyable whilst allowing us to work on the black willows on the sand bars.

There is a limit of eight as  we are taking 2 four-person rafts except if you can paddle grade three rapids and have your own boat.
