Safe drinking water through Source Water Protection in the ACT

Abstract:
Ensuring that the water which enters our treatment plants is of as high a quality as possible is recognised in the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines as an important step in the provision of drinking water. The ACT's drinking water is drawn from several different catchments, both within and outside the Territory's borders, encompassing a wide range of different land uses. The Source Water Protection Program within ActewAGL works with the many stakeholders who own, manage and use these catchments to reduce the threats to our water supply, creating collaborative approaches to address the challenges which face our creeks and rivers. This seminar will provide an overview of our catchments, and explore some of their specific challenges and the solutions which are being pursued.
About the speaker:
Lara Odell joined ActewAGL in 2010. She comes from a background in natural resource management and education. With almost 15 years in both NSW local and state governments delivering programs to reduce pollution impacts, Lara has been the cog between the accountants, the boffins, and the community (the ABC's), working to protect areas such as The Royal National Park, Illawarra escarpment, Botany Bay and Southern Sydney and Illawarra coastal beaches. ActewAGL's Source Water Protection Program is a strategic water quality improvement program with a major emphasis on relationship building and stakeholder participation.
This seminar is held in the Forestry Lecture Theatre, Forestry Building 48 on Linnaeus Way (comes off Daley Road), Australian National University, Canberra ACT. All welcome.
